Road to Building an App

By Isaac Farris · July 2, 2026 · Post #2

So now that the business was started, the fear set in. What am I doing? I'm all alone, and I only have myself to blame if I let someone down. I had never been a business owner before, but I was determined to give it a try. And if I was going to start my business, I wanted to put all my time and effort into it and helping it grow, but also put my heart and soul, or blood and tears, into it to provide a quality of service that isn't provided in this area. One on one tech help, where I sit down with seniors and small businesses and help fix their tech problems, but also walk through what the likely reason for the issue was and what to do or not do in the future. That is one of the main services I'm providing.

So I knew I wanted to focus on that, but now came a new fear: needing to create invoices. What about my mileage, that's a write off right? How do I keep track of my income versus my expenses? I know there is software out there that I really can't stand that does similar things, but they raise their rates constantly and don't provide a service that grows with the ever climbing cost of the program. So I sat down and thought, okay, as a business owner, what are some tools that I need that would help make my job easier?

I wrote them out. Mileage tracking, creating invoices, recording income and expenses. But I want to stay safe in case of an audit, so how can I have a system that protects me if that happens? Well, one way is proof of receipts or proof of mileage from an odometer reading. I started with that, all written out on that lined yellow paper that I love, and got going.

With my limited knowledge of coding, I began learning how to code, integrating AI into the process, and making sure I built an app that is useful to the end user, doesn't raise the rates, and listens to the community and grows with their needs. I needed this app to be safe and secure, and I got started. And as I worked and helped the community with their tech needs, I came across things that I needed, like having a client list and scheduler all within the same app, one that tells me the best time to leave that day for an appointment. It integrates with mapping systems to check local traffic and suggest a time to leave by. I've since released a ton of new features that I use full time, and I hope the community finds great use out of the app. I'd love to get feedback and ideas on how to make it better without breaking your wallet.

Some features being added now are AI employees, and I know, I know, you're tired of hearing AI this and AI that. To be honest, I'm at that point too. But this system I'm building will automate tasks that normally take good chunks of time, like chasing invoices, scheduling, and looking over expenses to see where you're sitting health wise for your business. So I'm building an office manager, a research agent, and a marketing agent that do so much more to help automate your business and let you focus on your customers and spend more time doing your job.

Feel free to check out the app at RoadFolio.net/welcome, and if you're interested, we have some other big projects in the works. As always, stay safe out there.
